Brown Madder

Originally formulated from pigment taken from the Madder Root (along with Rose Madder).  Because of poor lightfastness, now formulated from contemporary alternatives that exhibit similar or improved characteristics.  In oil, Brown Madder is clean mixing with good range from mass-tone to undertone.  In water colour, it is more orange, with exceptional clarity as well as good range from mass-tone to undertone.  When mixed with a typical granulating colour (like Cobalt Blue Deep) it tends to form stunning haloes.
