Consistent Quality and Formulation
Both Lukas 1862 world class oil color and Lukas Studio professional oil colors are made in full pigment strength and in exactly the same manner. This allows artists to select a palette of colors between the two lines based on the economy they need. So if they paint large they can purchase white and other colors in the Studio line and colors such as Cobalt Blue or Cadmiums from the 1862 line. No other line in the world offers such a possiblilty!
Lukas's world class laboratories insure that each batch of color made is consistent both in hue and working characteristeics. It is one of the few oil color manufacturers that test all the variability that can occur. This makes Lukas the most reliable of all oil colors.
Super Color
Both 1862 and Studio have shades that closely parallel those used by the old masters. With modern abilities to concentrate pigments Lukas has created colors with the intensity valued by master artists but without the need to work the paint before painting.
Permanency and Single Pigment Colors
You do not have to inquire about the permanency of Lukas oil colors that is because they are lighfast. They also use one of the highest concentrations of single pigments colors. This allows for incredibly pure blends and rich shades and tones.
Smooth, Rich, Balanced and Buttery
Lukas colors are incredibly smooth with a consistent ground particle size. This is accomplished by grinding pigments with vehicle up to 7 times through a triple roller mill. This allows the vehicle of either linseed oil or sunflower oil to completely encase the pigment allowing for the ridchest and most luminous compositions. Lukas processes it own beeswax, a painstaking process. It does because it adds beeswax to its formula. The processing cleans the beeswax and insures that it has no effect on the color. It does however make Lukas the most buttery color on the planet!
Fast Drying, Between 2-4 Days
Lukas has mastered the art of making oil colors by taking the guesswork out of drying while still maintaining an excellent archival painting film. Their secret recipe employ primary dryers that support the surface drying as well as auxiliary dryers that support the body of the paint layer's drying. This exclusive blend of siccatives (dryers) insures that your paint layer is dry in most cases in 2 days. However in heavy layers this can take as long as 4 days. If you compare this with other colors you will find that Lukas oil dries faster.
Excellent Brilliance On More Absorbent Surfaces
The special drier combination allows the outer layer to form a fast film so that it remains brilliant and has sheen even on more porous surfaces. This allows for unusually brilliant results on a wide variety of non traditional substrates.
