Japanese papers have long been a valued commodity to artists the world over. For over 2,000 years, these papers have been produced and are characterized by there softness and strength. These papers are made from regional fibers from tree or shrub bark such as Kozo, Gampi and Mitsumata. Of the remaining families making papers in Japan is the Fujimori family who own the Awagami Factory. This factory has maintained the traditions that date back to the 1700's when the art of papermaking in Japan was refined. Awagami combines these traditional papermaking skills with modern techniques to create the finest and most unique papers for artwork, printmaking and other uses.
