Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylics and Mediums
- Choose How You Want To Paint - With Atelier Interactive Professional Artists' Acrylic paint, you control your painting process, rather than the acrylics controlling you. Atelier Interactive is the very first 21st century acrylic that lets you choose to use old, fast-drying techniques, or new, slow-drying techniques, at any time during the painting process! Quite simply, Atelier Interactive is designed for all artists that want to take their acrylic experience further with more creative freedom.
- How Does This Work? - It's pretty simple! If you want to paint fast, that's no problem. After your painting is touch-dry, use traditional acrylic painting techniques. These intense highly pigmented acrylics produce vivid results and dry to the touch in just a few minutes. If you want to work wet-in-wet for blending or feathering, simply use your water sprayer or use a wet brush to rehydrate your artwork during a typical painting session, when you feel your paint get tacky. Water will typically reopen your touch-dry layers during a painting session. But if it doesn't, or it's the next day, or even days later, use a medium called Unlocking Formula to reopen those layers to blend and develop your painting wet-in-wet. So if you are not satisfied with the results, you can come back and rework or recreate part or all of what you painted, before you put down the next layer of color. It is important to know that in gaining access to these new, extended working/blending techniques, done within a time frame that you can control, you haven't lost any of the traditional fast-drying techniques you may wish to retain. In essence, you have the best of both worlds!
- How is This Possible? - Well, it really is a secret... but we'll tell you this much. Unlike typical acrylics that dry to a permanent film that can't be reworked or changed after just 20 minutes, the pigments in this acrylic are immersed like crystals within a binder that slowly and evenly releases moisture. Atelier Interactive generally cures in about 10-14 days, depending relative humidity, the types of mediums used and the thickness of the paint. We recommend waiting to varnish until the paint is fully cured.
- So What Can I Do? Don't like the ordinary? Then do the extraordinary with Atelier Interactive! With this paint, you can actually have many "happy surprises" by painting the first layer and adding a heavy paint layer that will reopen the bottom layer to make a "kaleidoscope" of unique blends that are as unique and changing as the weather. With a fantastic lightfast 75-color line of opaque, transparent, micaceous, and chiaroscuro colors, you'll love discovering what you can do. Remember—all you really need is Atelier Interactive, a water sprayer, a brush and a surface to take advantage of this unique paint. It's perfect for watercolor effects, glazing, impasto, plein air, wet-in-wet, monotypes, airbrushing—you are only limited by your imagination!
But if you like to try mediums, then you are in for a treat. Mediums, of course, are not necessary, but they add to the fun! Explore using the Binder Medium to seal layers, and then paint on top and remove paint to see what's underneath. Use the Fast Medium/Fixer for glazes and sgrafitto/scratchback effects. Try the Clear Painting Medium, Liquid Slow or Thick Slow Medium to have even more wet working time on your surface. Modelling Compound and Impasto Gel create amazing textural effects, and Black Drawing Ink creates beautiful tonal grays. Check out the Mediums page for more info.
Atelier Interactive offers a painting experience like no other and one not to pass up, because it opens up a whole range of possibilities and extends your imaginative world in a whole new way.
